Shakespeare Sonnets

It has been a long time since I have done anything for this blog, I have been quite busy. During the time that I haven’t uploaded I have been to Europe and New Zealand and had so much school work that reading for recreation has hardly been an option. Well that’s what I like to think anyway. I have been writing though, it’s nothing that I am proud of, but honestly it is the longest “anything” I have ever wrote, and although I never want anyone to read it, it’s nice to finally see what it is like to have an idea and then later incorporate it into the story. It’s like seeing what a real author does.
The point of this blog is to let everyone know that probably because of the reasons above I have flunked out of the 100 Books In a Year Challenge, but I will try again next year. Also I just found in my library a book containing all of Shakespeare’s sonnets, so I intend to read one every day for 154 days- suggesting my Roman numeral skills are correct. Hopefully I will find time write a little about them and every week I will update what each 7 were about. It’s on my bucket list to read the complete works of Shakespeare and I think this is definitely a start. Thanks everyone, first upload about them next Tuesday.

Chess- XOXO Gossip Girl

I never knew how to play chess until last week, note: I get obsessed with things very easily. So I started playing chess a lot. I would play at lunch time, in my spare periods and at home on the net and if there was no one challenge-worthy online, I would verse Microsoft. So yes I went from never understanding anything about chess to it being all I could think about. Chess is primarily a game of strategy and tact, which as I was playing I was thinking holy crap how much is life like a game of chess, in the sense that everything that you do will always have repercussions whether they are good or bad. For example, when starting a game of chess it is usual to move a pawn first, just because, you know it’s something that doesn’t seem very important and they are in front of all the other pieces so why not move them first. Then later on in the game, your pawn might be your only defence for your king or your queen.
So how does this relate to real life? I will just take a really cliché example. The life of Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl, assuming she is the queen - she will always make her minions do the dirty work that she feels is below her but in reality, her minions are the only ones who keep her popular, without them she wouldn’t have any power. What good is a queen without the pawns? In saying this you can only win a game of chess with a king and either a queen or a rook. So technically she is good without the pawns, but then her only purpose is to serve the King whom is above her. So then she has little value anyway. Does this mean, for our demographic, that we are only as good as the people and the number of people that follow us and that we lead? The answer I think is yes, but then again, we are all leaders to some people and followers to people we assume to be superior to us. And isn’t it funny that if you get your pawn to the other end of the board it becomes a queen itself? I think you can come to a conclusion yourself there. Another Gossip Girl example would be in season 3 when they all go to college and because they are out of the Upper East Side; Vanessa becomes a queen of a sort- an extremely bad dressed queen, but one nevertheless.
Hence, life is like a game of chess.

This is a blog I wrote in May but never uploaded. Funnily enough I was only obsessed with chess for two weeks. I was playing a game, which I thought it was inevitable for me to lose. A friend and I had been playing on the bus and we were going to continue after the weekend, I had all weekend to figure out every move possible to make, obviously not. I had two queens and I figured I could have her in checkmate in two moves. But for some reason the Monday morning when we continued, I didn’t predict the move that she did, it would have been the only move I didn’t realise she may have done. Then because of this move, I just moved a piece that I didn’t think would do any harm. Then somehow, in her next move she got me in checkmate and I lost. From then on I refused to ever play chess again. Another conclusion I just drew, it’s funny how you can have two of the best pieces on the board and honestly believe that you are going to win and completely demolish your opponent, but then by one silly mistake you just crash and burn! Honestly, it makes me mad just thinking about it. Thank you for reading to my philosophical approach to chess.

Definition of awesome: amazing, inspiring awe or admiration or wonder.
Who makes the cut? What makes something/someone awesome?
It is probably a word I use far too lightly and I say too often. I take it for granted and don't appreciate it as the AWESOME adjective it is.

People I truly consider awesome:

  • Good Cooks
  • The Weasleys
  • Eric Northman
  • Myself ;)
  • Jesus Christ
  • Katniss Everdeen
  • Kevin Rudd
  • David Attenborough
  • Heath Ledger
  • Johnny Depp
  • Jackie Chan
  • Marlin (Finding Nemo)
  • Frank McCourt
The reason I posted this blog was because of the last person on the list- Frank McCourt. I'm currently reading Angela's Ashes and when I read about his horrible life and the fact that even though all these horrible things keep happening to him and his family, he still can grow up and make the best of himself, even utilizing the bad things and turning it into something good. That my friends is awesomeness. This made me think, if I get everything in life easily, at the touch of a button or just by asking, doesn't that mean that I should be able to achieve awesomeness in everything that I do? And if majority of the people I know are in the same predicament as I, then how come I haven't wrote them on the list? Just a little food for thought :)

True Blood = Nicholas Sparks?

Omg to be honest I have totally forgot I even had a blog for about a week, which is sad because I love my blog and it has kept my English up to scratch.

So by the title you may be thinking wtf? But I shall now explain.
Last year I had an unhealthy obsession with Nicholas Sparks, I loved the way he made me fall in love with the characters like I knew them and I also love the way that he can make me cry, something I do very rarely. After I had read 10 of his books consecutively he began to bore me and I could predict the entire story after reading the first chapter. That's when I decided I had read enough Nicholas Sparks.

Recently I have been watching True Blood, for the first time, and I have really enjoyed it, I mean who doesn't love sexy vampires having hot kinky sex :/ but yeah. I love the show but the only part that annoys me a little is the strong southern accents all the actors possess, I guess because they live in a southern town but it aggravates me. This lead me to thinking about Nicholas Sparks, all of his stories incorporated three things; love, loss and a small southern town. But I have to admit when I am reading about these beautiful people falling in love I never imagine them with a big redneck accent. Which now that I think about it totally turns me off reading Nicholas Sparks again and makes me want to read books about wealthy British men. (Cough cough Mr Darcy)

Anyway I know this has been a bit of a lame blog, I'm sorry my next one will be better but it has made me think about when I'm reading and how from now on I'm going to try and think of the characters accent too. Thanks for reading.

Harry Potter FTW

Hello to anyone who reads this :)

I thought I'd better get the Harry Potter blog over and done with. Don't get me wrong I'm pretty excited to write all about HP.
I just don't know where to begin. I have to admit I had seen the first four movies before I read the books so I believe that means I didn't read them until about 2005 possibly 2006. The rest of my family had though and I knew all about them. When I read the books, I guess you could say it was magic, not to mention I was finishing them in two days flat! They probably changed my life, and are a huge part of who I am today.

Another really great part of Harry Potter is the fact the movies turned out so well. To say they got the characters spot on is an understatement, I mean the Weasley twins? I don't think I have ever seen such a great movie to book transition and it's lucky that they did make the movies so great or else there would be thousands upon thousands of raging fans coming after the producers.

A Very Potter Musical? Never heard of it? Well you don't know what you are missing out on get on Youtube right now! They have combined the sheer epicness of Harry Potter and made a musical. They songs are so catchy and you will constantly be singing them and people will generally throw you weird looks because you are singing a strange song about being awesome and going back to Hogwarts.

Recently, myself and two friends decided to have a Harry Potter marathon. Once we had set the date and everything me and the girl whose house we were going to- Emma, decided we would dress up as Ron and Harry just to surprise our other friend Sophie. It was the most classic plan, and although the costume shop was closed our costumes were still rather deadly. So we walked out to the lounge in our costumes and after she called us idiots and we organised a costume for her, it was six Harry Potter movies for us. We had a blast of a time. And I wouldn't be lying if I said when we went into Woolworth's, still in costume, we got shot some really weird looks, but it was fun, and in ode of Harry. If you look at my profile picture you can see for yourselves, I am Ron, because I love Ron! I think personally Harry doesn't have much personality, that's without saying his parents are dead and there is a sociopathic lunatic trying to kill him.

My favourite Harry Potter book without question is; Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, I think I love it so much because there finally was a fair bit of romance! It's sad for me to admit, but I learnt the paragraph where Harry and Ginny first kiss off by heart, and it really killed me not to see that in the movie, stupid Room of Requirement. But my favourite Harry Potter movie is definitely the third one- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, I have no reason why, I just do. Anyway I think that is enough about Harry Potter from me. Thanks for reading.
